Finding Purpose
Before becoming a physician, Dr. Balaji Sridhar was just a son watching someone he loves struggle.
His father, once an avid squash player, began to lose mobility due to knee osteoarthritis. The pain wasn’t severe enough for surgery, but it was enough to keep him off the court. The sport he loved became something he could only remember, not enjoy.
Watching his father live with daily pain left a mark on Dr. Sridhar. It was about more than joints. It was about dignity, movement, and joy. That experience planted a seed. There had to be a better way to help people like his father.
That question would guide the rest of his journey.
A Life Committed to Discovery and Healing
Determined to make a difference, Dr. Sridhar enrolled in a joint MD/PhD program at the University of Colorado. He dove deep into chemical engineering and tissue regeneration, focusing on how to help the body heal itself.
His research centered on developing biomaterials to help regenerate cartilage in major joints like the hip and knee. It was here that he gained firsthand experience with mesenchymal stem cells and saw their potential to support cartilage healing.
But his most powerful lesson came not from the lab but from his own body.
A Turning Point: Becoming The Patient
During his residency training, Dr. Sridhar suffered a serious back injury. A disc herniation caused constant pain, sleepless nights, and limited movement. He tried everything. Physical therapy, medications, even multiple steroid injections. Nothing worked for close to a year.
That’s when he tried something different: platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. It changed his life.
Within weeks, the pain began to fade. Over time, he regained his mobility. Today, he remains pain-free after a single injection of PRP into his back many years ago. He is playing basketball, lifting weights, playing squash, and living fully again.
That experience reshaped his career. He had seen the science and experienced the therapeutic effects firsthand.
Meet Dr. Balaji Sridhar: Science with a Heart
Dr. Sridhar holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering and an MD from the University of Colorado. His academic work focused on cartilage regeneration and the use of orthobiologics for musculoskeletal healing.
He is a board certified physician with experience in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Colorado and Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Washington. He then trained under one of the country’s leading regenerative medicine experts , Dr. Ariana DeMers, DO in California for a fellowship in interventional regenerative medicine.
He has led national clinical trials, developed patented biomaterials, and explored how to harness the body’s own healing tools.
When you meet Dr. Sridhar, you’ll meet someone who truly understands what you're going through and what it takes to feel whole again.
